Meeting accessibility standards

The Blue Water Legal website has been developed to meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. We are continually looking for ways in which the accessibility of our site can be improved. If you have any difficulties using this site, please do not hesitate to contact us.

In addition to accessibility, many usability issues have also been addressed. The list on the right identifies the ways in which this site has been developed with accessibility and usability in mind.

 

HTML and CSS

  1. All pages have been developed to meet XHTML 1.0 Transitional specifications.
  2. Layout and visual styles have been developed using CSS and are contained in external stylesheets.
  3. A style-sheet switcher is provided to allow for text resizing.
  4. Page content remains readable when stylesheets are disabled.
  5. Links have also been provided to the w3.org validator to allow for validation confirmation for html and css compliance.

Images

  1. All content images use descriptive ALT and TITLE attributes.
  2. Images have been used sparingly and only where considered appropriate.

Information about pdf and flash links

As this site contains pdf's and flash files, links have been provided to allow users to download the latest versions of the plug-ins required to view these files.

Links and navigation

  1. A skip navigation link is provided at the beginning of the page to enable screen reader users to jump straight to the page content bypassing the main navigation.
  2. Any images which are used as links are also provided as text links in the main content section of each page.
  3. Alt and Title attributes are used to warn if a link is going to open a new window.
